Lagos State Government has said the Makeshift Neighbourhood Food Markets have achieved the objective of enabling residents to access farm produce without much trouble as the State continues to observe the lockdown directives to curtail the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Prince Gbolahan Lawal, disclosed this on Wednesday during an inspection tour of the Ramadan Edition of the Makeshift Neigbourhood Markets at Idimu and Ejigbo Nursery and Primary School, Orilowo, Ejigbo in Lagos.
Lawal said the government was satisfied with the success rate of the 27 temporary markets originally created to reduce the economic impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on Lagosians.

He noted that access was provided for residents to buy products including vegetables, perishable goods, and others, especially those needed for the Ramadan fast.
The Commissioner declared that the prices of products at the markets were very competitive and cheaper than what obtains in the open markets, thus contributing greatly to the level of patronage recorded.
Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, Mr. Kehinde Joseph averred that the markets were well organised in compliance with the social distancing rule, use of face masks as well as personal hygiene directives of the government and NCDC.
