Makinde Invites Oyo NLC To Roundtable For Salary Deductions Discussion

Eko Hot Blog reports that Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has extended an invitation to the Oyo state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for a roundtable discussion on the issue of salary deductions.

This comes in response to a protest by workers at the state secretariat in Ibadan, demanding an upward review of their allowances and expressing grievances over three months of owed deductions.

The Commissioner of Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, clarified that the state government owes only three months of deductions, not six, and highlighted that numerous states across the country are facing challenges in paying salaries and deductions.

Despite financial constraints, Oyo State has implemented the N30,000 minimum wage for three years, promoted over 2,000 civil servants, and converted almost 1,000 others to regular service.

The state government emphasized that despite limited resources and a tightrope budget situation, it has undertaken significant infrastructural projects, which have been praised by the NLC.
