The statement read that “all efforts by aviation authorities to establish contact with the aircraft since it disappeared from radar have been unsuccessful.”

In response, President Lazarus Chakwera has directed regional and national forces to initiate an “immediate search and rescue operation to determine the aircraft’s location,” the statement added.

President Chakwera, who was scheduled to visit the Bahamas for a working trip, has cancelled his plans.

Recall that Chilima, In 2022, was stripped of his powers following his arrest and subsequent charges related to a bribery scandal involving a British-Malawian businessman.

However, last month, a Malawian court dropped the charges after Chilima made several court appearances.
