Malpractices Recorded As NECO Releases 2019 SSCE Results

The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2019 November/December Senior School Certificate Examination with over 17,004 cases examination malpractices recorded in the exercise.

Acting Registrar of the Council, Mr Abubakar Gana who announced the results on Thursday, said the results were released exactly 49 days after the last paper was written, as the examination was conducted from Monday, 18th November to Wednesday, 18th December 2019.

Gana disclosed that 33,576 candidates, representing 48.68 per cent got five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

The examination was conducted for external candidates wishing to acquire the minimum requirements tor admission into various tertiary institutions.

The NECO boss disclosed that the total number of candidates that registered for the examination was 70,140.

He also announced a total of 65,207 candidates sat for English Language, out of which 41,214, representing 63 per cent got either distinction or credit, while 66,398 candidates sat for Mathematics, out of which 54,565, representing 82.18 per cent got either distinction or credit.

On the other hand, 50,057 candidates, representing 72.57 per cent got five credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.

He said: “A comparative analysis of candidates who scored five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics for 2018 and 2019 shows 62.48% for 2018 and 48.68% for 2019, representing a decrease of 13.8% in 2019.

“It should, however, be noted that not all candidates scored credit in either English Language or Mathematics or both,” he said.

On candidates’ involvement in various forms of malpractice in 2019 when compared to 2018, Gana disclosed that there was an increase in the number of candidates booked for malpractice.

He said: “While 12,084 cases were recorded in 2018, 17,004 cases were recorded in 2019.

“This came about as a result of the comprehensive monitoring by senior staff, which also resulted in the decline in the number of candidates with 5 Credits and above.

“Candidates are hereby advised to log on to www.neco.gov.ng, click on ‘NECO Results’ and follow the prompts, to be able to access their results,” he said.
