Man Arrested for Alleged Vandalism of Lagos Flyover Bridge

- The culprits allegedly cut off two partitions of iron barricades used to protect the bridge, causing damage valued at N2 million

A 20-year-old man, Yusuf Hamza, has been arrested for allegedly vandalizing iron barricades on the Agege flyover bridge in Lagos State, Nigeria.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident occurred on April 2, 2025, when Hamza and other unidentified individuals reportedly cut off two partitions of iron barricades used to protect the bridge, causing damage valued at N2 million.

According to the police, the group intended to sell the stolen iron as scrap metal. During a routine patrol, officers from the Pen Cinema Division managed to apprehend Hamza while his accomplices escaped. Hamza has since confessed to the crime and is currently being held for interrogation.
As a result, Hamza has been charged at the Ogba Magistrate Court and is awaiting trial.
During court hearing, the accused man entered a plea of not guilty to charges.
In response, the prosecution, led by Inspector Udugbo Innocent, requested a hearing date to present evidence supporting the allegations.
Presiding Magistrate Mrs. M.O. Popoola granted bail to the defendant, with the stipulation that two sureties must provide proof of livelihood and tax payment, as well as have their addresses verified by the court.

The case has been adjourned, with the defendant remanded in custody at the Kirikiri correctional center until bail conditions are met.
