One Nura Asumoge will spend 25 years in behind bars for having carnal knowledge of a 13-year-old girl, a Lagos state sexual offences court has ruled.
The development was contained in statement issued by the state ministry of justice on Thursday.
The statement disclosed that Asumoge defiled the girl on April 3, 2018, noting that his action violated the penal codes of the state
After delivering her judgment, A.O. Soladoye, the presiding judge, also ordered that the defendant’s name be added in the sexual offenders register of the state.
“Judgment was delivered today by Hon. Justice A.O. Soladoye sitting at the Sexual Offences Court, Ikeja in the case of The State of Lagos vs Nura Asumoge ID/8124c/2018,” the statement reads.
“The Defendant was convicted for defiling a 13-year-old girl on the 3rd of April, 2018 and sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.
“The court ordered that the name of the convict be entered into the Sexual Offenders Register in the State.
“The offence of defilement is contrary to section 137 of the Criminal of Lagos State.”
The development comes one year after Adegboyega Adenekan, a former supervisor at Chrisland School, Lagos, was sentenced to 60 years in prison for defiling a two-year-old pupil.
There have been pervasive reports of child defilement across the country, with various state governments promulgating laws and policy to tackle the malaise.
