Man Stabs Wife, Popular Pastor To Death

  • It was learnt that while the pastor died immediately, his wife died minutes later from excessive bleeding.

Tragedy struck in Imo State over the weekend as a man identified as Obum allegedly stabbed his wife and a pastor to death.

EKO HOT BLOG gathered that the tragic incident occurred in Umuokoto town in Umudibia Autonomous Community in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State on Friday.

It was gathered that the man, suspected to be mentally unstable, hails from Obowo in Imo State.

He was said to have stabbed his wife severally before killing the pastor, Thompson Onyekuru, who was returning from a meeting two compounds from where he was stabbed.

It was learnt that while the pastor died immediately, his wife died minutes later from excessive beating and bleeding.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident started around 4pm on Friday when the man’s wife, Ogechi and her one-year-old son were heard screaming for help.

The cry, EKO HOT BLOG gathered, attracted the attention of neighbours and passersby, who noticed the man attacking his wife in their living room.

It was gathered that by the time they succeeded in seizing him, the woman had already been covered in the pool of her blood with her face inflicted with bruises.

It was learnt that the Obum after noticing his wife had been taken away for medical attention, became more aggressive, chasing everyone with a knife.

An eyewitness disclosed that it was at this point he met the pastor who had mediated in their quarrel prior to the incident and stabbed him from behind.

The eyewitness added that Obum’s aggressiveness and stabbing of the pastor coincided with the arrival of the police operatives from Nekede/Ihiagwa Divisional Police Station who immediately shot him in the leg.

The source further stated that the dispersed youths regrouped and descended on the man with sticks.

As gathered by EKO HOT BLOG, the incident was confirmed by the President General of Umuokoto Community Council (UCC), Hon. Charles Anozie, noting that Obum and the pastor were rushed to the hospital where they later died.
