Man United Humbles Bilbao 4-1 to Book a Spot in Europa League Final

Manchester United continued their fairy tale Europa League campaign at Old Trafford buy sustaining their unbeaten run in Europe with a 4-1 route over Athletic Bilbao.

The aggregate scoreline before the second leg encounter at Old Trafford was 3-0 in United’s favour following a brilliant performance at Bilbao.

However, Bilbao gave the home supportes an early scare as they pulled one back through a well taken by curler Jauregizar on the 31st minute mark, from outside the box after capitalizing on a sloppy pass from Maguire.

Athletic Bilbao took the one nill lead into halftime with a glimer of hope for a comeback at the restart.

United turned the tide against Bilbao following Reuben Amorim’s introduction of a triple substitution, featuring Mason Mount, Amad and Luke Shaw.

Mount had an instant impact as he drew the home team level on the 72nd minute mark, with a good chop-and-shoot curler inside the 18-yard box, restoring calm and believe at Old Trafford.

On the 80th minute, Casemiro gave the homeside the lead with a donking header via Bruno Fernandes’ brilliant cross from the flank.

5 minutes later, Rasmus Hoijlund joined the scoring party as he tapped-in a well placed low cross from Amad, whose footworks constantly placed the visiting side’s defence on the back foot.

Mason Mount ended the rout with a well taken long range strike into an empty goal, following Atletico Bilbao’s goalkeeper poor clearance few minutes into added time.

United ended the game with a resounding 4 – 1 victory on the night and a thumping 7-1 defeat to athletic Bilbao over two legs.
