EKO HOT BLOG reports on the FA Cup match between Brighton and Hove Albion versus Old Trafford club, Manchester United.
It was one of the games that lived to it’s hype and showed by far why a team like Brighton are where they are and how far they have come as a team and a club.
The result of 0-0 full-time score line pales in reflection of what the whole game was about and if anything does not do Brighton justice.
The Seagulls went into the game dominating Manchester United in possession and forcing the Red Devils to play the game they wanted them to play.
They forced Manchester United players into committing fouls that in the game placed the United players in awkward positions they wouldn’t want to be in going into latter stages of the match as the referee Craig Pawson dishing out the cards against United.
Casemiro, Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof were the players found wanting as the Red Devils held on to the dominating Seagulls to force the game into extra time.
Both teams had their chances in instances within the game. Brighton were able to register 5 shots on target as against Manchester United who had 6 despite having 39 percent of the possession in the game.
Whatever little possession of the ball Man United had, was enough to force a penalty shoot out after 120 mins of game play.
The penalty therein lied the unfair outcome to an exciting game that shouldn’t have left luck to be it’s decider. The penalty outcome rubbed football of a final that would have been a greater affair compared to a Manchester derby. It robbed us of Brighton and Hove Albion vs. Manchester City in a final.
