EKO HOT BLOG reports that despite Thursday’s dramatic 5-4 Europa League quarter-final win over Lyon, which briefly lifted spirits, United slumped back to reality with their 15th league defeat of the season — a new club record in the Premier League era. Amorim, who took charge in November after replacing Erik ten Hag, has now won only six of his 22 league matches since arriving from Sporting Lisbon.
United once again failed to find the net in a league fixture, with Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund and his attacking teammates struggling to convert chances. Wolves, on the other hand, snatched victory with a well-placed free-kick from Pablo Sarabia, sealing their fifth consecutive top-flight win — their best run since 1970.
“If you look at the game, we were the better team,” Amorim told reporters. “But if we don’t score goals, nothing else matters. Especially at this stage, results are everything.”
Amorim acknowledged that while his team controlled much of the game, their inability to convert dominance into goals has become a recurring theme. “We create a lot, we press well, but one set-piece can flip the script. That’s exactly what happened.”
He admitted United are a work in progress. “We tell the fans the truth — we lack a lot. We miss chances, and if we don’t finish those chances, we won’t win. We need to improve step by step, and understand this is how it will be until the end of the season.”
The manager also addressed Hojlund’s ongoing goal drought — just one goal in his last 28 matches — but insisted the young forward remains an integral part of his plans, especially with Joshua Zirkzee sidelined for the season.
“No, I can’t take him out right now,” Amorim said. “It’s not just Rasmus missing chances — others are too. The only way forward is to support him, work with him, and show him he can still score. Maybe all he needs is one goal to turn things around.”

Manchester United Defeat to Wolves
Manchester United now turn their focus to the Europa League semi-finals, where they will face Spanish side Athletic Bilbao. But with Premier League form deteriorating rapidly, Amorim has a major rebuilding job ahead.
