His overall tally stands at 30 appearances across all competitions, but he has been unable to secure a full 90-minute game since the disappointing 3-0 defeat to Sevilla in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals back in April. The defeat led to United’s elimination from the tournament with a 5-2 aggregate score.
While Manchester United has enjoyed a revival this season, claiming the Carabao Cup in February and reaching the FA Cup final where they will face local rivals Manchester City, Maguire’s individual progress has been limited within the club.
Although he maintains a regular place in Gareth Southgate’s England national team, Maguire has found himself behind the likes of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and even Luke Shaw in Ten Hag’s center-back preferences.
As a result, reports suggest that Manchester United is now prepared to entertain offers for the 30-year-old defender at a reduced fee, despite his contract running for another two years. Football Transfers indicates that the Red Devils are willing to accept bids in the region of £40 million for Maguire’s services, roughly half of the amount they paid Leicester City to secure his signature in 2019.
Among the clubs showing interest in the England international, West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur are considered potential suitors.
However, Tottenham’s serious pursuit of Maguire is believed to depend on the managerial appointment, specifically if Brendan Rodgers, who was dismissed by Leicester City in April, takes charge of the North London club in the summer. While current Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot is currently favored for the Spurs job, this could potentially decrease the likelihood of Maguire’s move to Tottenham.
Meanwhile, on a separate note, it appears that Manchester United remains keen on acquiring the services of Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur in the upcoming transfer window. The highly valued striker, whose market value is estimated at £100 million, has only one year remaining on his current contract. Despite former United striker Andy Cole expressing reservations about the signing of Kane, he remains a priority target for Ten Hag’s side.
Manchester United has three crucial Premier League fixtures remaining against Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Fulham as they strive to secure a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League. Additionally, they have a domestic cup final scheduled against Manchester City at Wembley on June 3, offering them an opportunity to claim a potential domestic double.
