Marketers Advocates Decrease In Petrol Prices, Increase In Supply Amidst NNPC Actions

Marketers urges NNPC to increase fuel supply to members to alleviate petrol scarcity and high prices, citing long queues at gas stations as a direct consequence of insufficient supply.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has initiated a fresh move to reduce petrol prices and alleviate long queues at gas stations across the country.

National Vice President of IPMAN, Alhaji Hammed Fasola, while addressing journalists in Ibadan on Friday, urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to increase the fuel supply to its members to mitigate the recent scarcity affecting major cities.

Fasola stated that the long queues at gas stations result from insufficient supply to marketers. He explained that if IPMAN members could directly purchase fuel from NNPC, the cost per litre would be more reasonable for the public, reducing the wait times.

He further noted that IPMAN members are currently forced to sell fuel at higher prices compared to other major retailers or depot owners because they buy the product at inflated costs from intermediaries. Fasola stressed that the association has voiced its concerns to the NNPC regarding the distribution of PMS and urged a return to the practice of allocating up to 50 per cent of the supply as was common in the past.

Marketers Decrease Petrol Prices

“It is not that we don’t get at all, we are getting a little, and when you compare our number in this sector; our members own 80 per cent of the filling stations.

“In the past, it was not like this.

“We had a share of 50 per cent but recently, things have changed, and we are trying to talk to the authorities, especially the NNPC, that they have to correct that abnormality.

“We are still trying to address the issue. This is why the independent marketers are selling at a higher price, which is not good for our image,” Fasola said.
