A tense scene unfolded in Aba on Saturday when over 20 masked men, suspected to be police officers, stormed a Labour Party (LP) meeting, disrupting the event and demanding silence from attendees.

The masked individuals reportedly confronted Prince G.O. Ndubueze, the secretary of the Labour Party’s local government election committee, and informed him of his arrest.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to witnesses, five of the masked men approached the high table where Ndubueze was seated and, without presenting a warrant, attempted to take him into custody.

The sudden disruption caused confusion among party members, who immediately rallied to defend Ndubueze, insisting that the masked men produce an arrest warrant before taking any further action.

In response to the attempted arrest, over 500 Labour Party members marched with Ndubueze to the Aba Area Police Command, demanding accountability and transparency from the authorities involved in the operation.

The protestors, clearly angered by the situation, questioned the legitimacy of the masked men’s actions.

Speaking to Vanguard after the incident, Ndubueze expressed his defiance, accusing Abia State Governor Alex Otti of orchestrating the disruption as part of an effort to impose his preferred candidates in the upcoming November 2 local government elections.

Ndubueze declared that the Labour Party in Abia would not tolerate such interference.

“I didn’t receive any warrant of arrest, and I don’t even know if those men were truly police officers,” Ndubueze said. “But as a law-abiding citizen, I complied and went to the police station.

However, I will never bow to intimidation from Governor Otti. This is a governor who came to power through a legitimate election, yet he’s trying to impose candidates. The Labour Party in Abia State won’t accept this imposition.”

The Labour Party members continue to stand firm in their opposition to what they perceive as an effort to undermine their democratic process.
