As Nigeria prepares for the inauguration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as the country’s 16th president, there are key things you need to know.

1. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu won the February 25 presidential election, though his victory is being challenged by Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party standard bearers respectively at the Presidential Election Petition Court.
2. Tinubu will be sworn in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, at Eagle Square, Abuja.
3. The ceremony will be witnessed by over 300 guests and broadcast live to millions of Nigerians at home and abroad.
4. In preparation for the inauguration, the authorities have tightened security in the Federal Capital Territory with the deployment of soldiers, policemen, undercover operatives and counter-terrorism units at strategic locations and public facilities.
5. Scores of representatives of foreign governments, diplomats, and heads of international organizations have begun arriving in Abuja.
6. Economic players, including the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association, Nigerian Economic Summit Group and the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria have urged Tinubu to tackle inflation, stabilize the exchange rate and ensure the removal of fuel subsidy within his first 100 days in office.
7. The incoming administration is expected to create a blueprint for reviving the refineries and removing fuel subsidies.
8. Tinubu is yet to unfold his economic blueprints, but he has been urged to unite Nigerians and check inflation and the exchange rate.
9. Bola Ahmed Tinubu will today assume office as the 16th President of Nigeria.
10. The Tribunal is yet to rule on the presidential election petition seeking to nullify Tinubu’s victory based on lack of 25% in Abuja.
11. All relevant government agencies have been urged to ensure that the electronic call-up system at the ports aimed at redressing congestion works smoothly.
12. The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called on the incoming government to review the fiscal policy gaps, unsuitable monetary policies, and administrative inefficiencies that are inimical to the proper functioning of the economy.
13. The chamber has also urged the new government to sustain interventions in select sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, and exports to boost Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings capacity.
14. The Trade Union Congress has presented its charter of demands to Tinubu, which includes improving the salary structure and standard of living for workers.
