The theme of this year’s Synod was “The Confidence of Faith and Submission.” Bishop Kolo expressed deep concern over the escalating rate of kidnappings for ransom, reckless killings, and the pillaging of villages and towns, particularly in Niger State.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Bishop Kolo called for proactive measures to curb these atrocities, stressing that it is the primary responsibility of the government at all levels to address the root causes of banditry and militia groups in the country. He firmly believed that President-elect Tinubu possessed the necessary qualities to elevate the nation and ensure the safety and security of its citizens.

In addition to addressing the security crisis, the cleric also urged the government to tackle other pressing issues. Bishop Kolo criticized the recent increase in petrol pump prices, which has further exacerbated the suffering of the masses. He argued that the recent cashless policy implemented by the government was ill-motivated and detrimental to the economy.

The Anglican Communion’s call for action reflects the growing concerns among Nigerians regarding the state of security in the country. The incoming administration, led by President-elect Tinubu, faces the formidable task of restoring peace and stability, while also addressing socio-economic challenges.

As the nation awaits the May 29 inauguration of the new president, the expectations of Nigerians remain high. The call from religious leaders, such as Bishop Kolo, adds to the collective pressure for effective governance and the safeguarding of lives and properties.

President-elect Tinubu’s administration will be closely watched as it navigates these complex issues and formulates strategies to combat insecurity, restore public trust, and foster economic growth.
