Buhari has acknowledged that he will hand over the presidency on May 29, 2023.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that President Muhammadu Buhari restated his commitment to handing over the presidency to an elected president come May 29 next year.
He stated this while speaking to Shakib Ben Musa, the Minister of National Education, Pre-School and Sports of the Kingdom of Morocco, who visited the State House, Abuja, as Special Envoy of King Mohammed the VI.
In a statement by his Media Assistant, Garba Shehu, Buhari said his second term in office would end on May 29, 2023, in line with the constitution.
He also said his term of office would end with the inauguration of a new president in May next year.
President Buhari, who said he would study the message sent and respond accordingly, gave assurances at the same time that he would continue to cherish and strengthen the very warm and cordial relations between the two countries.
On his part, the Special Envoy, who was accompanied by Mr. Moha Ou Ali Tagma, the resident representative of the Kingdom in Nigeria, restated to the President the friendship and solidarity of the King, the government, and the people of Morocco with Nigeria.
Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party are the major contenders to succeed Buhari next year.
