Court Invalidates MC Oluomo’s NURTW Presidency
The Court of Appeal has nullified the emergence of Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) while reaffirming Tajudeen Baruwa as the duly re-elected president of the union.
This decision was delivered in a unanimous judgment on November 8 by a three-member panel comprising Justices Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the court upheld the March 11, 2024 ruling of the National Industrial Court in Abuja, which declared Baruwa as the legitimate leader of the NURTW.
The appellate court dismissed the appeal filed by seven appellants, including Alh. Najeem Usman Yasin, and imposed a cost of ₦100,000 against them. The judgment, signed by Deputy Chief Registrar Judith M. Jabbe and delivered by Justice Hamma Akawu Barka, declared the appeal “devoid of merit.”
Earlier, the Southwest Zone of the NURTW had conducted an election at its Zonal Secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State, appointing MC Oluomo as National President.
Following the election, MC Oluomo, a close associate of President Bola Tinubu, had taken office at the union’s national secretariat in Abuja.
However, Baruwa challenged the move, stating through his lawyer, Tolu Babaleye, that the inauguration disregarded previous court rulings affirming his leadership.
The ruling effectively reinstates Baruwa as the legitimate National President, emphasizing the judicial invalidation of MC Oluomo’s appointment and further clarifying the leadership status within the union.
