Among the Alaafin that have ruled the town from 1770 till this mommet, there is only one of them that has been able to spend 50 years on the throne. And this Alaafin that has achieved this feat is the current Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III.
The monarch ascended the throne of his forefathers in 1970 and he is still ruling his people as their traditional ruler. He is the 47th Alaafin of Oyo succeeding Oba Gbadegesin Ladigbolu II.
This 50th year on the throne made him the Alaafin to spend longest time on the throne between 1770, during the time of Alaafin Abiodun till now. The only Alaafin o have come closed was the father of the Alaafin before him, Oba Siyanbola Onikepe Oladigbolu I who reigned for 33 years from 1911 – 1944.
The Octogenarian monarch despite his age is still agile and much alive to his duties. He is still much active in his boxing training which he has been doing before becoming king as he was a boxer then.
The monarch who is the grandson of the 42nd Alaafin of Oyo, Alawolodu Adeyemi I who reigned for 29 years and son to the 45th Alaafin, Oba Adeyemi II who reigned for about 10 years as he was deposed and sent to exile from the throne after a political issue he had then.
The traditional ruler has been the favourite of his father and has shown royalty sign from the beginning as he had same sign as his father which endeared him to his father. He even lived with a king at his tender age. He lived wat the palace of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Oladapo Ademola II, the king that had issued with Egba women that were led by Funmilayo Ransome- Kuti, mother of Fela Kuti. And even went into exile with the king when he left the throne.
The in vogue monarch is married to about twelve beautiful wives, the senior queen being Queen Abibat Adeyemi. And to the amazement of many people the ageless king is still “firing” and giving birth to more kids.
