Admiral Adekunle Shamusideen Lawal was born Lagos State which was formerly known as Western Region, British Nigeria on 8th February, 1934. He went to Holy Cross Cathedral School, Lagos, St. Peter Faji School, Lagos and The Methodist Boys School, Lagos where he obtained his Secondary School Certificate.
He later proceeded to College of Technology, Yaba where he obtained his A’Level certificate. In 1960, he went to Ahmadu Bello University from where he became a B.sc holder in Engineering.
He joined the Royal Nigerian Navy in September, 1963 as a sub-Lieutenant and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1964. He further went to the Royal Naval Ships in Holland where he studied a Marine Engineering Course.
Few years after this course, he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander in 1966 precisely. Since he needed more certificates to keep progressing in ranks, he further went to The Defence Naval Staff College in India where he received his Masters in English Language.
In 1975, Admiral Adekunle Shamusideen Lawal was Appointed as the Lagos State Governor of which he served for 2 years before he was transferred to Imo State in 1977.
In 1977, he became the first Yoruba man to Govern Imo State where he served till July 1978 before he finally retired from the Nigerian Navy in 1979. He eventually died in November, 1980 leaving behind his wife and six Children.
