Meet The Former Nigeria Head Of State That’s Being Accused Of Masterminding The Asaba Massacre

 

  • Nigeria has seen several military rulers/dictators run the affairs of the country till 1999 when they country switched to democratic system of government.
  • Many believed Nigeria’s Former Head Of State, Murtala Muhammed  was herioc and concerned about the people at the time.
  • He was born on 8 November 1938 and was assassinated on the 13 February 1976.

Though the military rule was mainly dominated by dictators, however some military Head of state at the time were believed to be different and had a better orientation.

After series of research and going through some documentations that were done regarding the legacy of Murtala while he ruled Nigeria, his era remains controversial.

According to Wikipedia, The history behind his rule remains controversial as the nature of his rule changed over time.

His reign was marked by economic prosperity and brutal repression, which greatly improved the quality of life in Nigeria at the time.

His dictatorial style proved highly adaptable, which enabled social and economic reform.

However, Mr Bashir Ahmad also believes the former head of state was a true hero and he shared a post on his official twitter handle.

His tweet has however received lots of response regarding his terming the late Head of state a hero.

Popular Comedian Basketmouth also responded to the tweet saying: “Hero? For What exactly? The Asaba massacre? “.

A lot of users have also accused the Murtala of masterminding the massacre.
