Melissa Hoskins: Champion Cyclist Pleads Guilty Over Wife’s Car Death
Former world champion cyclist Rohan Dennis has pleaded guilty to a charge following a tragic car incident in Australia that resulted in the death of his wife, fellow Olympian Melissa Hoskins.
Hoskins passed away in hospital on December 30, 2023, after being struck by a vehicle driven by Dennis outside their Adelaide home.

Initially, Dennis faced charges of dangerous driving causing death and driving without due care.
On Tuesday, he admitted to a lesser charge of one aggravated count of creating the likelihood of harm.
Dennis, 34, who has two children with Hoskins, will be sentenced at a later date.
While the details of the incident remain unclear, Dennis’s guilty plea acknowledges that he was driving a car near Hoskins, knowing or recklessly disregarding the likelihood of harm.
Dennis’s lawyer emphasized in court that there was no intent to harm Hoskins and that the charge did not hold him responsible for her death.
Hoskins, a world champion in team pursuit in 2015 and a two-time Olympian, was mourned by many after her passing. She and Dennis were married in 2018.
Dennis retired from professional cycling at the end of the 2023 season.
Throughout his career, he won stages at prestigious events like the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, and Vuelta a España.

He was also a multiple world champion on both road and track, securing a road time trial bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and a team pursuit silver at London 2012.
Dennis claimed a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
