Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, a Nigerian politician and husband of Nollywood star Mercy Johnson, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Friday morning.
The lawmaker, who represents the Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State, was reportedly attacked at his Uromi residence by armed men believed to be political thugs.

Michael Ihaza, Okojie’s media aide, confirmed the incident in an official statement. According to the statement, the assailants arrived at Okojie’s home in a Lexus GX 470 with a Rivers State license plate—PHC 253 FF.
The prompt response from the security personnel attached to Okojie thwarted the assassination attempt. The statement detailed that the armed thugs, disguised as police officers, entered the lawmaker’s residence under the pretense of having an appointment.

d the driver and another suspect who were apprehended and are currently being interrogated by the Nigeria Police Force in Uromi.
In a dramatic twist, the detained suspects allegedly confessed that they were sent on this mission by leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Esan North-East Local Government Area.
As of now, the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has not released an official statement regarding the attempted assassination.
