Messi And Suarez Power Barcelona Past Atletico Madrid
With both Manchester United coach, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, and his assistant, Mike Phelan, watching, Barcelona came up with late goals to almost secure the La Liga title for the season.
With Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez beating the usually impressive Jan Oblak twice in the match, Barcelona were afforded the chance to go 11 points clear atop the La Liga table. It means the chances of adding an eighth league title in 11 years remain bright for Barcelona as Atletico Madrid, down to ten men after the sending off of striker, Diego Costa, failed to halt their march towards the title.
With Diego Simeone having emphasised the fact that Atletico needed to grab a victory to retain any chance of catching the Catalan side in the race for the league, everyone now know it is not a matter of time before Messi and his men are crowned champions.
Diego Costa, who made a return to the starting line up after weeks on the sidelines, was sent off in the 28th minute and that was after missing a caution for an incident earlier.
Whatever hope harboured by Atletic fans that they would get at least a point from the match were dashed when Suarez notched the first goal of the match in the 85th minute. Messi added another a minute later, leaving Atletico coach, Simeone distraught and ruing the latest red card incident involving Cosa.
