Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has partnered with Data Science Africa to introduce the Llama Impact Grant.
This new initiative aims to support startups and researchers across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) by funding innovative projects that use Llama, Meta’s open-source artificial intelligence (AI) model.
The grant focuses on encouraging the development of solutions that address unique challenges in the region. Meta believes that AI has the power to improve productivity, boost economic growth, and advance scientific and medical research.
Through the Llama Impact Grant, Meta hopes to support projects that can bring real social and economic benefits to communities in Sub-Saharan Africa.
According to Meta, the winning project will receive $20,000 in funding to help turn their idea into reality.

The company is calling for proposals from individuals, startups, and organizations across the region. Successful applicants will be expected to develop AI-driven solutions using the Llama model, with a focus on areas such as healthcare, science, agriculture, and other fields that can positively impact society.
