From bringing nothing to the table, Mexican boxer, Andy Ruiz went away with the IBF, WBA, WBO world titles early Sunday after upsetting Nigerian British boxing champion, Anthony Joshua.
Joshua was knocked down in the seventh round in the first defeat of his career after winning 20 straight victories with 19 knockouts, with Ruiz’s victory regarded as one of the biggest shocks in the history of the game, especially in the heavyweight division.
Joshua, whose start in the match was evidently slow, first went down on the canvass twice to Ruiz in the third round before enduring a quiet fourth.
He, however, seemed to be back on course in the fifth round because being knocked down twice more in the seventh round, with the fight stopped not long after as Joshua refused to heed the referee’s instructions.
According to the promoter, Eddie Hearn, a quick rematch is likely told hold in either November or December.
