United States President Donald Trump has once again reaffirmed his determination for the U.S. to take control of the Gaza Strip. This declaration came during his meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah at the White House on Tuesday, marking their first official discussion since Trump initially announced his controversial plan regarding Gaza.
In recent weeks, Trump has suggested leveraging U.S. aid to neighboring countries such as Jordan and Egypt, hinting that financial assistance could be withheld unless they agreed to take in displaced Gazans. His stance has sparked international backlash, with critics warning of the geopolitical and humanitarian consequences of such a move.
Despite widespread condemnation, Trump remained resolute while addressing reporters in the Oval Office, seated beside King Abdullah. “We are going to take it [Gaza],” Trump stated firmly. “We are going to hold it. We are going to cherish it.”
The former president further elaborated on his position while speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One on Sunday. He expressed his commitment to what he described as “buying and owning” the war-ravaged enclave, suggesting that the current state of Gaza rendered any previous governance or habitation obsolete. “There is nothing to move back into in Gaza,” he remarked. “The place is a demolition site.”
Trump’s remarks have intensified global debate over the future of Gaza, with many world leaders urging diplomatic solutions rather than unilateral actions that could exacerbate tensions in the region.
His approach continues to be a focal point in discussions about U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, as both allies and adversaries assess the implications of his statements.
