EKO HOT BLOG reports that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly planning to sell at least seven players this summer as he looks to revamp the squad for the next season. According to a report by the UK Sun, the list of players that could be shown the door includes the Gunners’ record signing Nicolas Pepe.
Pepe, who arrived at Arsenal from Lille in a deal worth £72m in 2019, has failed to live up to his price tag, scoring just 16 goals in 80 league appearances for the club. The Ivorian winger is currently spending the season on loan at Nice.
Apart from Pepe, the other six players who could be sold include Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, and Cedric Soares, who are all playing for Premier League clubs while out on loan. Nuno Tavares is with Marseille, Alex Runarsson is at Alanyaspor, and Pablo Mari is in Italy with Monza.
All of these players may be in line for permanent exits from the club once their loan deals come to an end. The report suggests that Arteta is keen to offload players who are not part of his long-term plans and bring in fresh talent to bolster Arsenal’s chances of success in the next season.
The Gunners have struggled in the current campaign, and Arteta is looking to rebuild the squad in the summer transfer window. Arsenal is currently in ninth place in the Premier League table, and they are unlikely to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
It remains to be seen which players will depart from Arsenal this summer, but with Arteta at the helm, there could be significant changes to the squad ahead of the next campaign.
