Mikel Arteta Reveals Death Threats Towards His Family
- Mikel Arteta has revealed that his family has received death threats
- He was threatened following club’s poor performance this season

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has become the most recent Football coach to speak out against threats he has received on online media.
The Gunners manager, enlightening the media ahead of his Arsenal clash against Leeds at the Emirates on Sunday, echoed calls for associations to take stronger action against those using their web based as receptacles for abuse.
It follows after a spate of racist abuse have been orchestrated at footballers over the last few weeks, while Newcastle boss Steve Bruce and popular football official Mike Dean said they had received death threats, EKO HOT BLOG gathered.
“I’d wish not to [talk about it] but I think we’re all exposed to that in this industry,” Arteta confessed.
“That’s why I’d like not to browse [social media] because it would impact on me personally especially the moment that somebody wants to come after my family.
“Because it occurred, the club had knowledge of it and we tried to intervene. That’s it. We have to stay with it.
“It’s not going to end tomorrow, we know that, but short or long-term can we do something about it? That’s what I am nudging for.
“We are fortunate enough as well that the club is very corroborating. We do what we have to do when those things happen.
“My only goal is fair, it’s not going to happen tomorrow, but can we do something about it in the short to long term to protect the people that are involved in the competition, and maybe in other industries it happens similarly.”
