The issue of banditry in the Northern States have been a source of concern not just to the governors and people of the affected states but to all Nigerians.
Since the start of these illegal activities in Northern Nigeria, Nigeria’s reputation in the international community has suffered greatly.
Kidnappings in the North for large sums of money are now commonplace. As a result of the military’s diplomatic approach to dealing with the bandits, the President has issued a shoot-on-sight order to the military for everyone found with AK47 rifles and unrepentant bandits.
I believe the government is recognizing the gravity of the situation on the ground, and this is a positive move.

I also propose that the Nigerian Army parade the bodies of neutralized bandits in neighboring communities as a deterrent to any Northern youth considering a career as a bandit or kidnapper.
Many of these youths don’t watch the news or anything else to see if the military kills any of these bandits when carrying out their assaults.
They need to understand that they could be killed while kidnapped or causing mayhem. They believe that seeing is believing.
