The military court martial to resume trial of the aide-de-camp to a former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, and six soldiers attached to him.

Our correspondent was told that the trial of Badeh’s ADC and security details was over alleged dereliction of duty and security breach, which were believed to have caused his murder by gunmen along Abuja-Keffi Expressway.

The former CDS, was attacked and shot dead on December 18, 2018, while returning from his farm in the area.

On July 3, 2019, the panel set up by the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, arrested and paraded 14 suspects linked to the murder, including a 51-year-old suspect, Jibrin Ibrahim.

The top military source said: “The court martial is still ongoing. It has not been concluded yet. The time of next sitting for the court martial should be in the second week of January, 2020. There is no judgment yet. The ADC to Badeh is in a military detention, and the soldiers are also in the guardroom.”

Apart from the officer and soldiers, military sources at the DHQ noted that the 14 civilian suspects arrested for Badeh’s murder were awaiting arraignment and were being held by the Department of State Services and the police.

“The suspects are not with the military. They are with the police and the DSS operatives. We do not know why they have not been arraigned. On the day they were paraded in July 2019, the military had to wait for the suspects to be whisked away by the DSS and the Inspector-General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team operatives. We don’t have any of those ones in our custody because we cannot prosecute them.”
