Minister of Women Affairs Threatens to Take Legal Action against States
Ekohotblog reports that the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has warned that her Ministry will take legal action against states that have failed to distribute empowerment sewing machines provided by the Federal Government for women across the country.
During a two-day capacity-building workshop in Abuja, attended by Commissioners for Women Affairs from all 36 states, the Minister stated that the machines were donated to promote entrepreneurship and socio-economic development among women.

However, she expressed concern that several states have yet to utilize the equipment, which includes industrial sewing machines, rice milling machines, garri processing machines, and fish grilling equipment, among others.
Kennedy-Ohanenye announced that the following states had received the sewing machines: Anambra, Kano, Rivers, Imo, Lagos, Oyo, Katsina, Gombe, Kebbi, Adamawa, Ebonyi, Niger, Bayelsa, Benue, Jigawa, and the FCT.
She issued a deadline of September 13 for these states to begin using the equipment, warning that failure to do so would result in legal action and the retrieval of the machines for redistribution to those in need.

She also highlighted Benue State as an example of quick action, praising their immediate distribution and use of the machines.
Kennedy-Ohanenye stressed that empowering women through practical tools was a more effective use of ministry funds than investing in ineffective programs, urging the states to activate the equipment and take advantage of available markets for the products to be created.
