The Federal Government is owing contractors handling various road construction and rehabilitation works nationwide the sum of N306 billion.
The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, made the disclosure yesterday when he received the executive members of the Public Transport Owners of Nigeria Association (PTONA) in Abuja.
He said in the past four years, the ministry had not received a trillion naira allocation but has been able to pay contractors only N72 billion, adding he had met with the affected persons and convinced them to return to site.
Fashola added that the entire road, sea and air were important not only to Mr. President but also to all Nigerians, as “government wants to lift people from the state of poverty to prosperity.”
