EDITOR’S PICK

There was palpable excitement among members as Eko Club Houston on Friday kicked off its silver jubilee celebration on a solemn note with the observance of Jumat Prayer at the Masjid-ul Mumineen.

The two-day programme is organised to celebrate the accomplishments and sacrifice of the club’s pioneers and members who have, over the years, worked their fingers to the bone to actualise the mission statement and the vision of the organisation

The club president, Bashir Agoro, emphasised the need to express gratitude to God for providing the inspiration for the formation of the club and also furnishing its members with the necessary accoutrements to preserve the dream through thick and thin.

Similarly, Otunba TJ Abass enjoined club members to draw inspiration from the club’s humble beginnings as an apt index of what can be achieved through the power of unity and cohesion.

Attorney OJ Lawal described the event as a moment for sober reflection on the club’s contributions to the human cause over the past 25 years and how these contributions can be used as a launchpad to effect even more significant change in the next 25 years.

Dr Sukanmi Adeyinka hailed the spirit of communalism that has driven the club since its inception and proffered it as the key that will propel the club to greater heights in the years to come.

Meanwhile, the officiating Imam congratulated members of the club for sacrificing their time and material resources for the benefit of humanity. He described it as the highest calling of mankind that every man must embrace, much like in the storied allegory of old.

After the prayer session, the first event, the Family Day, titled “The Ankara Night,” will take place at the Enoch Hall on Beechnut. All members are expected to assemble at the venue by 6 pm.

The program was organised and sponsored in its entirety by wives of Eko Club members.
The Ankara night, although a fundraising strategy, is also intended to showcase the Eko Club youths.

These were the youths who entertained Governor Tinubu in 2000; today, they are successful medical doctors. The program includes Akara Night, Guest Lecture, Scholarship, Raffle Draw and Fundraising.

The guest lectures featured family members and children who were part of the Eko Club Youth at its inception but today are successful and accomplished professionals.

The Ankara night, besides its fundraising goal, was designed to showcase the youth who represent the future of the club, like their fathers before them.

Several guest speakers took centre stage and spoke insightfully on various issues ranging from mental health, immigration, disability and career path.

The event also featured a raffle draw, and the 1st prize winner went home with a 60-inch color TV.
