Miss Universe: ‘It Was Traumatic,’ Chidimma Adetshina Quits Pageantry

Miss Universe 2024 runner-up, Chidimma Adetshina, has announced her decision to leave the world of pageantry, citing personal reasons and traumatic experiences during her journey.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Speaking in a recent interview with Silverbird TV, Adetshina shared her struggles, revealing that she almost withdrew from the Miss Universe competition. She emphasized her desire to focus on self-discovery, personal growth, and furthering her education.

“Finishing in the top two at the Miss Universe competition is still shocking to me,” she stated. “Pageantry was a real traumatic experience. I’m really done with it. I want to focus on myself and establish who I am.”

Adetshina, who relocated from South Africa to Nigeria, was crowned Miss Universe Africa and Oceania after emerging as the first runner-up in the global competition held in Mexico. She had previously withdrawn from the Miss South Africa contest due to scrutiny surrounding her nationality before representing Nigeria.

Reacting to her success, former presidential candidate Peter Obi praised Adetshina for her resilience and determination. In a statement shared via X, Obi commended her for overcoming numerous challenges and making a name for herself on the international stage.

“Her journey is a demonstration of resilience, perseverance, and dedication,” he noted. “Competing against over 120 contestants and securing first runner-up is a remarkable achievement.”

Obi also described Adetshina as a symbol of hope for Nigerian youths, urging them to remain steadfast in their pursuits despite challenges. He reiterated his commitment to creating a better Nigeria for the nation’s talented youths.

“She stands as a symbol of hope, especially in these challenging times. Her story assures us that no matter the obstacles, success is possible,” Obi concluded.

Chidimma Adetshina’s announcement has sparked widespread reactions, with many applauding her for her achievements and courage to move forward on her own terms.
