Mission For Improved Water Supply In Lagos: LWC, USAID Seek Support Of Traditional Rulers

  • The LWC is not leaving any stone unturned in its mission to improve water supply across Lagos State.

  • The water corporation recently joined its partner, USAID, to seek the support of traditional rulers for a water project.

  • Both parties visited Otto and Otumara Communities, Ebute Metta, Lagos Mainland.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has sought the support and understanding of Lagos residents, particularly, the traditional rulers of Otto and Otumara Communities, Ebute Metta of Lagos Mainland.

LWC and USAID made the appeal on Thursday, April 6, 2023, during a visit to the communities.

In his opening remarks, the LWC Managing Director/CEO, Engr. Muminu Adekunle Badmus, represented by LWC Deputy Director Distribution, Department, Engr. Saheed Olatunji said the visit is to acquaint the team with the host communities and to announce the commencement of a new water project.

Engr. Olatunji said the project, which will be sponsored by USAID, in partnership with the Lagos State government is aimed at improving water supply in the communities.

On his part, the representative of the USAID team, Engr. Joechim Ezeji urged the traditional rulers to help in the area of sensitisation and enlightenment of residents of the areas for total cooperation and support.

Meanwhile, the Oloto of Otto and Lagos Mainland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abisoye Odesanya Okeyide (Olupejobi II), represented by the High Chief Jubril Aro, Baale Otumara, Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye received the LWC and USAID teams.

In their separate statements, the traditional rulers pledged their support and cooperation for the realization of the program.

The Oloto of Otto and Lagos Mainland, through his spokesperson, High Chief Jubril Aro expressed delight for the laudable project and thanked Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his commitment towards improving water supply in the state.

Similarly, the Baale of Otumara community, High Chief Kehinde Kalejaiye, commended the partnership between the LWC and USAID which led to the birth of the water project.

“We give thanks to God for inspiring this project. Otumara community and indeed the entire Ebute Metta district is a large community but as large as it is, we have a change of potable water supply,” he said.

“Our people cannot wait for the project to see the light of the day, as the Communities need water.”

Recall that the USAID visited the LWC Headquarters on Tuesday to unveil CHEMONICs as a contractor for projects geared towards improving water supply in Lagos. The projects are expected to improve the governance and regulatory framework of water generation and distribution in the state.
