Eko Hot Blog reports that Molusi College Student Association (MOCOSA) set of 1969/1973 bave commemorated their golden 50th anniversary since graduating from Molusi College, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.
The grand reunion and project commissioning ceremony held on Saturday, November 25, 2023, in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State.
The celebratory day commenced with a significant drive to Molusi College, where the set embarked on a mission to commission a project that a executed.
The project was a beautifully renovated staff room, a nod to appreciate the sacrifice their teachers made for them in school.
Warmly received by both staff and students, the MOCOSA members were greeted with songs and dances of joy as they made their way to the staff room for the official commissioning.
A member of the reunion organizing committee, Mrs. Bisola Ayeni, in a brief address, emphasised the often overlooked contributions of teachers.
She noted that this reality motivated the old students to give back to the schoolteachers and make them comfortable in their office.
“We are at the point of commissioning. What informed the 69/73 set picking up on this project is that most times and most places, the instruments that God used for our development are not usually remembered, that’s why we decided to make sure our teachers are comfortable,” the old student of Molusi College said.
“When we went round, considering what would be the best for us to do, we saw the situation of the staff room and we deemed it fit that this will be best to put smile in the teachers face.”
Speaking to the teachers, Mrs Ayeni said she hoped that with the renovation of the staff rooms, there would not be transfer of aggression on students and teachers would be happy and comfortable with their new abode.
Venerable Dr. Bayo Odeniyi, representing the Global Chairman of MOCOSA, Dr. Kukoyi, officially commissioned the project, stating the exploits of the 1969/1973 set at the global level and encouraged students to emulate the numerous achievements of the set before taking a comprehensive tour of the staff room with members of the set.
“At this level, I cannot deny the luggage of this set, but we must now understand that this is an assignment meant for the Global President. The set is particularly lucky that this tenure has a strong representative at the global level,” he said.
“The President, Secretary, VP 2, one PRO, ex-officio all belong to this set. Mentioning this yesterday while we were enjoying, somebody said ‘melo leko’ (meaning how many are you taking).
“I appreciate all of you that good things are happening in your time and I pray that when you grow up, you’ll continue to see good things and you’ll be part of good things.”
Venerable Odeniyi revealed the school principal’s pressing for the project so that his teachers could have a befitting place as an office.
“We cannot remove the principal from this project. Every time I come here, he’ll always complain that his teachers are staying in a dusty environment, so we presented the project to our class. They agreed to take it up despite most being retirees. But then we are able to renovate the staff rooms,” he said.
The principal of the junior secondary school expressed gratitude to the old students and acknowledged the set’s past contributions, including the provision of water and financial support for the repair of the school bus.
“I really want to appreciate you all. Being a Molusian and seeing the wonderful things Molusians are doing is a rare privilege. What we have here cannot be found in other schools. Nearly every month we commission one project either in the junior school or senior school,” he said.
The Molusi College official further emphasized on his happiness meeting great people like those in the 1969/1973 set and others due to the wonderful things they’ve achieved.
“I appreciate and thank you all. I also want to thank God for giving me the opportunity to meet dynamic people like you. If not because of you I won’t be able to talk as a Molusian. I can now talk as a Molusian because I have seen the wonderful things done by Molusians,” he added.
Following the project commissioning, the group convened in the hall for a meeting.
Ven. Odeniyi called members to the high table, and two MOCOSA members shared stories of their school days.
The chairman of the set, Alhaji Yomi Hussein, during his welcome address was appreciative while reflecting on their lost colleagues and spoke highly of their teachers’ effort to mould them into better individuals with their dedication and commitment.
“As the proud members of the ’69/’73 set, we fondly refer to ourselves as ‘Ebi Alayo,’ a joyful family. The collective achievements of this exceptional group, both in financial contributions and personal presence, truly amaze me,” he said.
“Reflecting on our project five years ago, focusing on providing water to the community, I am confident that it remains a valuable asset. Our gratitude extends to the school management for their diligent care of past projects, inspiring us to pursue even greater endeavours.
“In honouring our departed classmates—over forty souls—let us consider our continued existence as an opportunity to express gratitude for the gift of life.
“Molusi College, a comprehensive high school, moulded us into independent individuals excelling in diverse fields. The teachers were very honest, and very dedicated unlike the present day teachers. They have contributed to who we are today.
“In the area of discipline, I remembered when I wore school trousers after school hours and one of our teachers saw me and told me to bring the trouser to him but I ran away. I was accosted on the day of exam after a slap to the cheek and was severely punished.”
He concluded by appreciating everyone again.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ogunsanya delivered a health talk on prostate enlargement, cancer, and diabetes, engaging the audience with questions and answers.
Different groups of Molusi College students entertained the gathering with an energetic and interesting choreography and cultural dance. Afterwards Chief Barrister SA Odumosu, represented by Barrister Tosin Idowu, gave the second lecture on appraising the myth and merit of writing wills in Nigeria.
The commissioning and gathering in the school premises concluded amidst joyous feasting and resonating music, helping to reaffirm the bonds of friendship.
As laughter echoed through the hall, memories of shared accomplishments, lively discussions, and the vibrant celebration of enduring connections lingered, marking this golden reunion as a timeless testament to the spirit of unity and shared history.
