In a letter, dated 12 January 2022, which was signed by the National President and National Secretary-General of the alumni, Olaitan, Ibukun O. (Mr.) and Olabiyi, Moshood O. (Mr.), respectively, the association said that the decision of the House proposing the ceeding of the  MAIN CAMPUS to AOCOED, Ijanikin is not acceptable by them.

The letter sighted by EKO HOT BLOG was titled, ‘Position Of MOCPED Alumni Association On The Passage Of The Bill For Transmutation Of MOCPED And AOCOED To Lagos State University Of Education’, reads:

“You may wish to recall that the Lagos State House of Assembly passed a bill for the transmutation of MOCPED and AOCOED to Lagos State University of Education proposing AOCOED, Ijanikin as the MAIN CAMPUS.

“It gladdens our heart for the giant strides and commitment of the State towards this great upgrading which will promote the better educational development of the State.

“However,  the decision of the House proposing the ceeding of the  MAIN CAMPUS to AOCOED,  Ijanikin is not acceptable as it does not represent EQUITY, JUSTICE and FAIR PLAY.

“It may be recalled that Alumni Association of MOCPED and several other stakeholders including the Royal Fathers and Eminent personalities had proposed MOCPED to be the MAIN CAMPUS with succinct and genuine reasons canvassed. To our great dismay, the House ignored all the positions canvassed and still proposed AOCOED, Ijanikin the MAIN CAMPUS.

“For the avoidance of doubt, some of the reasons we had earlier adduced were as follows;

  1. Epe Division of Lagos State have been a victim of marginalization by successive governments
  2. The spread of institutions had been to the disadvantage of Epe. The only College in Epe is now proposed to be annex while other Divisions have one or two institutions.
  3. To our understanding, in citing institutions, consideration must be given to mobility. It is a known fact that Ijanikin area is too choked with the resulting effect of busy road of LASU which is five (5) kilometers away from AOCOED. Therefore, it is our expectation that the respected members of the State House of Assembly would have objectively considered students convenience in their decision rather than allowing too much politicking to overide the goodwill of our dear state. This decision of the House to make AOCOED the main campus if allowed will make the two (2) Lagos State owned universities to be located about five (5)km away from each other which is not Fair enough. This will further increase the traffic situation in the area and leash untold hardship on the students and people of the area.
  4. As MOCPED Alumni Association noted in the memorandum submitted during the Public Hearing, (copy attached), there is no gainsaying that it will be more economical and prudent for a University’s main campus to be situated on a dryland with available hectares of land rather than on a swampy one. The community in preparation for the University, donated hectares of Land to MOCPED through the Royal Father, HRM Oba Babatunde Olaogun Ogunlaja, the Aladeshonyin of Odo- Noforija Kingdom in 2012 for the purpose of this University.

“It is imperative that our listening and forward looking Governor looked critically into the need for EQUITY, EQUAL DISTRIBUTION of State institutions and facilities,  JUSTICE and FAIR PLAY among the constituents of the State, particularly,  DIVISIONS and make MOCPED the MAIN CAMPUS  of  LASUED as the final approval of MAIN CAMPUS is the perogative of the Governor who has the Executive fiat on such.

“We therefore wish to appeal to the Governor to change the proposition of the Assembly and ensure that the MAIN CAMPUS is MOCPED before signing the BILL into LAW.

“Finally, we pray that His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, would look into the issue critically and meritoriously and cause the House of Assembly to make the CAMPUS of Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Noforija, Epe Division of Lagos State the MAIN CAMPUS of the proposed LASUED so that the university will get started on a good note.

“We thank Your Excellency for the understanding, cooperation and acceptance of our position to make MOCPED the MAIN CAMPUS of LASUED.”
