The College of Education Academic Staff Union, (COEASU) of Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED) has refuted viral claims that one of its members was shot and killed in the college.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Jamal Apena, and made available to Eko Hot Blog, the union described the news a malicious and distorted publication geared towards smearing the image of the institution.

The statement reads: “The attention of the leadership of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, Michael Otedola College of Primary Education Chapter, MOCPED-COEASU, has been drawn towards a malicious, contorted and blatant lie being peddled by mainstream media houses in Nigeria as regards the killing of a lecturer in the college.”

Comrade Apena categorically stated that no member of the union had been killed and urged the general public to disregard the disgraceful publication making the rounds across various media.

“To set the records straight, the union wishes to state categorically that at no point in time was there any case of our member being killed by gunmen.”

“We hereby appeal to Nigerians to disregard the news in its entirety as the story flying around is the handiwork of quack journalists who never took their time to verify the veracity of the news before
publication.”

Reacting to the fatal killing of a teacher in Epe, the union expressed it’s regret and condolences to the family members and students whose lives the educator had positively impacted before his tragic death.

“However, the union commiserate and condoled with all teachers in Epe for the fatal shooting incident involving Mr Saheed Hamed in his electronics shop at Poka community.”

“It is our prayers that God will grant the family, friends and well-wishers fortitude to bear his irreparable loss.”
