MOCPED Management Slams Punch, The Nation, Others for Defamatory Publication, Demands Public Apology

The Management of Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED), Noforija, Epe, has slammed some named media outlets over what it has termed “misleading” and “disgraceful” Journalism.
In a statement signed by the college Public Relations Officer, the institution condemned viral news reports by the likes of Legit.ng, The Nation Newspaper, Sahara reporter, TheCable.ng and Punch Newspapers wherein it claimed that an academic staff of the college had been shot and killed in the college premises.
The statement reads: “The attention of the Management of Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Noforija Epe, has been drawn to the news article with above headline that was published by some online portals – Legit.ng, The Nation Newspaper, Sahara reporter, TheCable.ng and Punch Newspapers on Sunday November 21, 2021 and cause a rift on social media platforms.”

The statement, which described the publications as embarrassing and utterly injurious to the image of the institution said that the victim of the fatal shooting was neither an academic staff of the college nor under the employment of the institution at all.

“Management takes a very serious view of the said publication that has besmeared the otherwise good image of the College and its hardworking staff.
“It particularly, condemns in no uncertain terms, the misleading headline of the story stating that Mr Ahmed Saheed was a lecturer in the College.
The College will like to bring to the notice of all the media and the general public that Mr Ahmed Saheed was never a lecturer in the College, rather, was a teacher at Army High School Epe.”
The statement also demanded an unreserved apology from the named online media outlets for erroneously tarnishing the image of the institution in the public domain.
“However, the college demands an unreserved apology from the media houses to uphold the good image of the College which was earlier battered by the untrue publications and thereafter commiserate with the family of the deceased.”
“The College while frowning at the incorrect and misleading information would want the media to investigate properly and publicly apologise for denting the image of the College.
“However, the College Management is deeply saddened by the incidence and expressed their heartfelt condolence to the family of the deceased,” the statement read.
