MOCPED: Provost Hails College Progress, Commiserates With Family Of Drowned Student

The Provost of Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED), Professor Nosiru Onibon has applauded the multidimensional strategies responsible for the unprecedented growth and development of the College under his administration.

The multidimensional factors responsible for the growth he said includes the renewed College brand, the College products, adherence to the aims and objectives of the founding fathers, digitalization of results, timely certification, the constitution of the vibrant admission committee, advertisement amongst others.

An excited Associate Professor Nosiru Onibon, who was thankful to God for the annual improvement in the college admission drive, on Wednesday, May 19th 2021, was speaking in an interview with EkoHotBlog in Epe on the sidelines during the recent 2020/2021 NCE Matriculation Ceremony.

“In the last three years I came on board, I thank almighty God. We’ve been having an average of 500-550 students, but this year, it’s over 600 and this is the highest in over 10 years in the history of the college.

Onibon, who lamented that parents with financial means no longer fancied sending their children to study in the College of Education except, harped on the place of education in Nigeria.

“The situation is changing for the better in recent years for the teaching profession because we’re moving more towards professionalization. Today, in our Primary and Secondary schools in Lagos State, if you don’t have a teaching qualification, you don’t find yourself in the classroom unlike before. It’s the same thing here in our College.

In another development, Onibon regretted the unfortunate tragedy which befell one of MOCPED’s shining stars who recently got drowned at sea. He seized the medium to prompt students and by extension, members of staff of the college, to put their primary assignment first above any other extra-curricular or union activities, whether religious or academic, which he described as secondary.

Although Onibon stated that it wasn’t out of place to allow the school to pass through them, he cautioned that there must be conscious efforts for safety at all times. He disclosed that the College Management has at all times catered for the welfare of the students both in and out of the College.

“The situation was unfortunate, I commiserate with the parents and I feel sorry for what happened. I pray the boy has a perfect rest in peace,” he stated.

In his reaction, MOCPED Dean of Student Affairs, Mr Ayanlaja AO, who also expressed shock at the unfortunate tragedy, told EkoHotBlog that he was involved in the search and rescue of the missing student, Kelvin Olude. He however dismissed insinuations from some quarters that there were missing body parts of the deceased, suspected to have been dismembered for ritual purpose. He further clarified that the body was intact when found and was buried accordingly.
