It was joy unconfined at the Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED), as students under the aegis of University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s Premier University with affiliate ties to the College, sealed their degree programmes upon completion of their final papers.
This played out during the “signing out” celebration, a tradition popular with Nigerian undergraduates in Higher Institutions of learning after writing their final papers. The fun-filled celebration featured photographic sessions, music, dance, autograph signing and refreshment both on and off-campus with the young and stunning Finalists dressed in dapper-looking and alluring outfits.
Some of the students, who spoke with Ekohotblog shared their eventful adventure in the course of the 4-year programme. They also didn’t hold back in advising the College Management, their colleagues and prospective students.
An Educational Management student who is a complete definition of beauty and brains, Adegbite Jola, described her experience as a bumpy ride, noting that the College isn’t a place for lazy students.
” The past 4 years in MOCPED has been a bumpy ride, I’ve experienced the good, the bad but I don’t think there’s any ugly experience. The program is fast, we have amazing and friendly lecturers and they’ve improved in prompt release of results. I wrote an exam on Wednesday and Friday, the result was already out.
” We call this school “Mocstress”, this is because if you’re the lazy type, this is not the school for you. If you’re not ready to study and work for your grades, stay clear.
The Management is proactive against cutting corners during and after exams”, she said.
Miss Jola also expects the management to make the clearance fee affordable and also see to prompt upload of results. Lecturers were admonished to desist from setting examination questions out of course content and outline for fairness.
She also questioned the Education system in Nigeria, noting that the system is not designed to unbundle the talents lodged within Nigerian students, which explains why many Nigerian students excel tremendously when they go outside of Nigeria’s shores for their tertiary education.
Similarly, Afolabi Olamilekan aka SuperDee from the Biology department, a photography genius whose talents transcends the shores of the college, said he had awesome experiences especially with the duo of lecturers who treated him and colleagues like blood relations.
“Being in the college was awesome, we had our good and bad times. The program was a very smooth one though it was a bit rough towards the end but we give thanks to God. I’d like to give kudos to our lecturers, they are amazing. Special appreciation to Mr Olalekan A.A and Mr Akeusola. These duos treated us like their own Brothers and Sisters.
He further stated that in the college, there are competent lecturers and lectures were well delivered. He admonished the College management to keep up the good works, stating that students welfare should be a priority to them and most importantly, more hands should be employed at the UI Directorate.
In the same vein, Rotaractor Oyejoko Tolulope, the Rotaract Club of MOCPED President and Educational Management Course Rep. described her experience as challenging, particularly given her course of study.
“My experience in MOCPED UI has really been challenging with combining Management and Economics. Embracing Epe wasn’t easy but we thank God. What I love about MOCPED is that the program was fast and if not for COVID 19, we would have signed out in August 2020”.
While she implored her colleagues not to just sit at home but engage in gainful employment, she advised prospective students to brace up, see studying as all they got, and build a Student-Lecturer relationship, noting that nobody can graduate in isolation.
