Speaking with Eko Hot Blog, Mrs Lawal gave an insight into the motivation and significance of the programme she initiated in collaboration with Olori Aribike Adewale, the wife of the Olu-Epe of Epe kingdom, Oba Shefiu Adewale.

“I had this passion for a long time to give back to the society. After many years abroad, I put calls across to Olori Adewale, stating my vision to empower the youth in Epe and around the world,” she said.

“I was conferred with the chieftaincy title of ‘ Youth mother’, so the onus is on me to ensure the youth have something to do rather than being jobless and seeking ungodly ways to earn a living.”

She stated the challenges faced while embarking on this initiative, hoping to surmount them next time.

“Due to my stay abroad, I could not raise the initial capital to carry out the project which was in the tune of N30 million. I tried reaching out to the few people I know but the money gotten wasn’t more than N300,000. I had to double the amount so that we can touch the few lives we can positively instead of postponing,” Mrs Lawal said.

“We got six youths machines and equipment to start up their business. Two tailoring equipment, three hairdressing equipment and one make-up artist equipment.”

She charged the recipients to use the equipment strictly for business and not nurse the idea of selling them off, as they are expected to make returns after a while.

The chief appreciated Olori Adewale for being supportive towards the cause and other people who made contributions to the cause, hoping more people, even those in government support this kind of initiative whenever it comes up.

The king’s wife, on her part, praised Mrs Lawal for her generosity, saying she often called her that she wanted to help the less privileged that have learnt a hand work without support to start up on their own.
