Eko Hot Blog reports that Joseph Aloba, the father of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has shed light on the reason for his son’s hurried burial.
Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, and was laid to rest the following day, which sparked controversy and questions about the swift burial.
In a recent interview shared on Instagram by Temilola Sobola, Aloba explained that Yoruba culture does not support keeping a deceased person’s body when both parents are still alive. He clarified that if Mohbad had passed away at an older age, the option of keeping his body in a mortuary for a later date might have been considered.
Aloba further revealed that the land where his son was buried belonged to Mohbad, and he had given it to him to build a church. He emphasized that the decision to bury him swiftly was in accordance with Yoruba customs and traditions.
“In Yoruba land, his corpse is not the kind to be kept when both of his parents are still alive,” Aloba stated. “That land where Mohbad was buried is his only land, that is the only land I know him to have owned.”
He also explained, “Truly he gave me the land to build my church because we had both agreed to build the church there, and since that’s the only land I knew him to have.”
Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Music under the ownership of Afeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, left the label in February 2022.
The involvement of the Department of Security Services in the investigation of Mohbad’s passing was also mentioned, following an invitation by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-olu.
Additionally, a candlelight procession and tribute night for the late artiste were announced by his management.
