EKO HOT BLOG reports that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commenced his second term in office with an elaborate inauguration ceremony held at the iconic Tafawa Balewa Square. The governor, accompanied by his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, arrived at the venue amidst great fanfare and excitement.
The inauguration procession kicked off as Governor Sanwo-Olu embarked on a tour of the square in an open-air motorcade, eliciting chants of “Sellable” from the enthusiastic crowd.
This demonstration of support and approval from the people of Lagos was a testament to the governor’s popularity and the confidence they have in his leadership.
In the recently concluded gubernatorial elections, Sanwo-Olu emerged victorious by polling an impressive 762,134 votes. His closest rival, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party, secured 312,329 votes, while Jide Adediran of the PDP came in third with 62,449 votes. Funmilayo Kupoluyi of the APM garnered 884 votes, and Abiola Adeyemi of the APP scored 259 votes, according to the official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
However, the opposition parties, particularly the PDP, raised concerns about the eligibility of Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy to contest the election.
They argued in separate petitions that both candidates failed to meet the qualifications outlined in the Electoral Act and the 1999 Constitution. Furthermore, they claimed that INEC did not adhere to the provisions of the law during the electoral process.
The petitions submitted by the PDP and other political parties are currently under review by the appropriate legal authorities. The outcome of these proceedings will determine whether any adjustments or further actions will be taken regarding the election results.
It remains to be seen how these developments will unfold and if they will have any impact on Governor Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.
As Governor Sanwo-Olu begins his second term, he faces high expectations from the residents of Lagos State. His administration has been lauded for its efforts in improving infrastructure, tackling security challenges, and implementing innovative policies that promote the socio-economic development of the state.
Lagosians eagerly anticipate the governor’s plans and initiatives for the next four years, hoping for continued progress and prosperity under his leadership.
The inauguration ceremony at Tafawa Balewa Square served as a symbolic moment for Governor Sanwo-Olu and his team to reaffirm their commitment to serving the people of Lagos State diligently.
