Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Saad III, has announced that the new moon needs to be sighted today, Friday 22 May, adding that if the new moon is sighted, tomorrow Saturday will be the first day of Shawal, the day of Eid-il-Fitr, for the Islamic 1441 After Hijrah.
Sultan who is also the Chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs said if the crescent moon is not sighted, it means Muslims have to complete the month of Ramadan to 30 days and First of Shawal will be Sunday, 24 May 2020.

So, he urged that anyone that sights the moon should show his or her neighbors for confirmation and call immediately for pronouncements.
