EKO HOT BLOG reports Morocco secured a 1-0 victory over Zambia in the Africa Cup of Nations Group F match, with Hakim Ziyech scoring the decisive goal, ensuring their place as group winners.
The result had significant implications for hosts Ivory Coast, allowing them to advance to the last 16 despite a previous 4-0 defeat by Equatorial Guinea.
Despite the absence of captain and defender Romain Saiss, Morocco’s strong performance, led by coach Walid Regragui (watching from the stand due to a two-match ban), showcased their dominance in territory and possession against Zambia.
The goal came in the 38th minute when Ziyech capitalized on a spilled cross from Achraf Hakimi.
Morocco’s victory sets up a round of 16 clash against South Africa, while the Democratic Republic of Congo, who drew 0-0 with Tanzania, will face Egypt.
Ivory Coast, as one of the highest-ranked third-placed teams, secured their spot in the knockout stage, providing relief after their earlier defeat.
