“She was under immense pressure from people who called her child a bastard. After caring for her baby for 10 months, she couldn’t bear the ridicule and decided to throw him into the river, then reported him as missing,” Edafe explained.
The case took a turn when the baby’s body was found floating and brought to the police station, prompting Jonathan to confess.
Speaking during her parade by the police, Blessing explained that she had been abandoned by the baby’s father, Ugo, and was left to care for the child alone. “I was overwhelmed by the judgment of others. They called my child a bastard, and I was alone in taking care of him. I regret everything. That baby was my first and only child,” she said.
SP Edafe urged the public to be mindful of their words, stating, “Stigma can push people to take unimaginable actions. Let’s be more empathetic and supportive of those facing difficulties.”
Jonathan remains in custody as investigations continue.
