Babajide said that during police investigations, the 28-year-old scavenger made a confessional statement admitting to the crime. He also told the court that Abubakar was not a first-time offender.
In his ruling, the Area Court Judge, Malam Saminu Suleiman, sentenced Abubakar to 21 months in prison, with an option of paying a N30,000 fine.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charges and begged the court for leniency. The judge, however, said the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others who may be considering similar crimes.
