Ali, a three-time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion and Olympic gold medalist, captivated a global audience.

His impact extended beyond the realm of sports, as his roles as an activist, artist, and personality solidified his status as a widely recognized figure.

On June 26, 1976, he participated in “The War of the Worlds,” an exhibition match against Antonio Inoki at the Nippon Budokan arena in Tokyo, Japan.

The event, conducted with specific regulations, concluded in a 15-round draw, capturing the attention of 32,000 onlookers and drawing substantial viewership through closed-circuit television. This included 33,000 enthusiasts at Shea Stadium in Queens, New York.

This event is frequently seen as a precursor to contemporary mixed martial arts, emphasizing Ali’s impact.

Even after retiring from boxing with a remarkable record of 56-5, featuring 37 knockouts, Ali remained connected to combat sports. Notably, he acted as the special guest referee for the inaugural WrestleMania in 1984, overseeing the main event involving Hulk Hogan & Mr. T and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper & “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff.

In a decisive moment during the match, Ali restored order with his iconic right-hand punch to Piper, leaving an unforgettable impact on the event.
