Nigeria’s celebrated music icon, Onyeka Onwenu, affectionately known as the “Elegant Stallion,” will be laid to rest today in Lagos.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the renowned artist passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72 after collapsing during an event honoring Dr. Stella Okoli, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals. She was rushed to Reddington Hospital, Ikeja, where she was pronounced dead.
Her funeral service, as announced by her family, will take place at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos. The service of songs is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM, lasting until noon, with a private burial following between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM at a vault in Ikoyi.
Onyeka Onwenu was a multifaceted figure in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, making significant contributions as a musician, broadcaster, actress, politician, and activist. She leaves behind a rich legacy of timeless music and impactful activism, surviving through her two sons.
As the nation bids farewell to one of its most revered cultural icons, the funeral is expected to attract dignitaries, celebrities, and fans who have long admired Onyeka Onwenu’s remarkable work and contributions to Nigeria.
